I watched Jay Leno this week and something interesting happened. During Monday night's "headlines" segment he made a Tea Party joke. The crowd was silent. During Tuesday night's monologue he made another Tea Party joke. The crowd booed. He quickly quipped "looks like we have a lot of Tea Partiers here tonight" to cover it up and move on.
Since the crowd is different every night I found this interesting. During the Bush years the crowd generally enjoyed the Republican and Bush bashing. But, this week, they didn't seem to care for the Tea Party bashing. I wonder how much this reflects on the overall mood of the country right now. The election in 38 days may tell us the answer.
By the way, other than making fun of Delaware Senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell he has made any Tea Party bashing jokes the rest of the week. Jay's a bright guy who understands and audience.
